The scheme works in three main steps: Eligibility, Planning, and Implementation.
Eligibility: You first apply to the NDIA to become a participant, proving you meet the criteria regarding age, residency, and disability impact.
Planning: Once approved, you meet with a Planner (LAC or NDIA) to discuss your goals, current supports, and future needs. This results in an individualised NDIS Plan with funded support categories.
Implementation: You choose how to manage your plan (Agency, Plan, or Self-Managed) and select NDIS Registered Providers like TASCare Services to deliver your funded supports, working toward your goals.
The NDIS is guided by a strong philosophy focused on empowerment and inclusion. Here are the core objectives that drive the scheme
The primary goal is to empower participants to make decisions about their supports, who provides them, and when they are delivered, ensuring the services align with their preferences and personal goals.
The NDIS aims to provide the supports necessary for participants to engage fully in society—in their community, at work, and in social activities—leading to greater inclusion and independence.
Funding is provided for supports that are related to the participant’s disability, offer value for money, and are considered reasonable and necessary to achieve their goals, without being covered by other government systems.
